From Paris to Metz. The Pompidou Centre in Paris has launched its offspring from the nest: in May 2010 the Pompidou-Metz Centre opened its doors, the much anticipated project having been announced in 2003. This is the first time a major French cultural institution has divided and multiplied, and this new venue is pretty spectacular. It was no accident that the city of Metz was chosen as the location for the new Pompidou. Well placed in the heart of Europe, the centre looks to European artists and to creativity from the rest of the world, initiating a cultural and artistic exchange of ideas. The Centre presents all kinds of artistic expression through major works from the 20th and 21st centuries. Through its exhibitions and artistic initiatives it reflects contemporary creation and ideas, making them accessible to a wider public. Thanks to the extensive collections belonging to the National Museum of Modern Art, the Pompidou-Metz is able to exhibit almost 1,300 works on its walls, of the 60,000 which are available to it at any one time. With painting, sculpture, cinema, photography and design, the two centres will continue to work together to offer you the best possible experience.
